A Whole Bunch Of Qualified People Tell Obama “Stimulus” Plan Won’t Work

Posted by TheJOTUS on February 2, 2009

And by a whole bunch, I mean 200.  And by more qualified, I mean top economists, including four Nobel Prize winners.

Together, these 200 top economists signed a national ad against the train wreck that is the “stimulus” plan proposed by the democrats:

“There is no disagreement that we need action by our government, a recovery plan that will help to jump start the economy.”

President-Elect Barack Obama

With all due respect Mr. President, that is not true. Notwithstanding reports that all economists are now Keynesians and that we all support a big increase in the burden of government, we the undersigned do not believe that more government spending is a way to improve economic performance. More government spending by Hoover and Roosevelt did not pull the United States economy out of the Great Depression in the 1930s. More government spending did not solve Japan’s “lost decade” in the 1990s. As such, it is a triumph of hope over experience to believe that more government spending will help the U.S. today.

Here is a neat little snap shot of the ad:

Support for this plan is down to 42%.  And the more people find out what is tucked into this little pork belly, support will no doubt continue to drop.  If that does happen, will Obama and the democrats heed the advice of these 200 experts?

I don’t think so either.  So, this got me to thinking about a scene in the movie Armageddon, where they are debating on what actions to take about a massive asteroid rapidly approaching Earth (the metaphorical parallels are astounding here folks).

Basically NASA, the outfit clearly most qualified in this scenario, wants to do it one way; while the President’s team wants to do it another.  Arguing ensues, when one of the NASA’s scientists says:

“I know the President’s chief scientific adviser, we were at MIT together. And, in a situation like this, you really don’t want to take the advice from a man who got a C minus in astrophysics.   The President’s advisers are wrong.  I am right.”

Again……the parallels are frightening.
